The name really does say it all, – grandiflorus – grand flowers. Platycodon is also known as the Balloon Flower, or Chinese Balloon Flower. It grows to about 2 feet high, flowers in those precious late summer days, and looks fabulous in a late summer border.
“Summer Nights” is one of our favourites at the moment, it is very different from the traditional tall Delphiniums with their huge spikes of flowers which resemble rockets going off. “Summer Nights” grows as a wonderful low, bushy mound of lacy green leaves, from these loose sprays of sky-blue to deep midnight-blue flowers develop throughout the summer.…
