What a terrible name for such a lovely plant!
The Stokesia par tot the plant name is in tribute to Dr Jonathan Stokes, an 18-19th Century English physician.
It has the most amazing, huge fluffy cornflower like flowers which grow up to 4″ across.
It flowers throughout the summer and the flowers appear over neat rosettes of semi-evergreen foliage.
Stokesia is great for cutting and bringing into the house and attracts bees and butterflies into the garden.
It is also hardy, even in Brighouse!
