How many potatoes to grow?

January 30th, 2015

To know how many seed potatoes to buy here is a handy guide that we use here at Kershaw’s Garden Centre:

Each seed potato produces around 10 potatoes. (now you know what you have to beat in our great potato competition…)

So if you plant a row of 10 seed potatoes you get 100 potatoes.

If you plant 10 rows you get 1000 potatoes!

However the slugs like potatoes, so if you loose 10% to slugs, you can simply take 10% off the total.

All you have to do now is work out how many potatoes you eat each week, and you can calculate how many seed potatoes you need to grow.

Remember earlies do not store that well, and so you only need enough of those to last from June/July when you dig them to September when you lift the main crop ones.
